Big Fish photographed in the Heavy Rain
Posted by Gillies on Saturday November 8, 2008 at 04:16 PM

During a recent fishing trip down to the Isle of Harris one night to fish for Common Skate from the shore, it was a horrendous night with the rain lashing down, my friend caught a 139 lb Male Common Skate, and I was busy photographing it with the Canon 20D and 550ex Flash Gun, praying that it was not going to be a victim of the wet elements ... I was to scared to risk the 5D.

The 20D and 550ex handled the rain just great .... but in my mind it was just about at it's limits, and was out in the rain just as long as it could have been, both the body, lens and Flash Gun were dripping wet.  A good wipe down with towel, and left to dry, and thankfully it is all still going great !!!!

Here are a few photos of the Common Skate with Gordon Mackenzie whom caught it, and it swimming away back out to sea ... as you can see, it was pretty heavy rain.

All photos shot in complete darkness at ISO 400, F11, 1/160 and Flash Gun pumped up to +1 and 1/3.
